The complexity of the mediascape and the rise of social media are fostering the appearance of a new kind of celebrity: micro-influencers. While micro-celebrities as influencers obtain the public recognition of their online celebrity status from fans, rapidly gaining the status of celebrity and distancing themselves from their audience, micro- influencers step in as cultural proximity influencers, lessening any emotional and/or cognitive distance from their readers.
